School of Civil Engineering and Architecture

School of Civil Engineering and Architectural was established in 2001, formerly known as the Department of Architectural Engineering, is one of the oldest schools in Ningbotech University.

The school has 3 undergraduate majors of Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, and Road, Bridge and River-Crossing Engineering. Since 2019, above 3 undergraduate majors have been merged into Civil Engineering major (including directions of Architectural Engineering, Road and Bridge Engineering, Engineering Management, Urban Underground Engineering and Municipal Engineering).

With 55 staff members, the School has 42 full-time teachers, among whom there are 13 professors, 12 associate professors (senior engineers), 3 doctoral supervisors and 16 master advisers. The School currently has around 800 undergraduates and over 60 doctoral and graduate students jointly nurtured with Zhejiang University and other universities, forming the training mode of multilevel talents. The School has made outstanding achievements in platform construction, including 1 international cooperation base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 key laboratories of Ningbo, and 3 innovation and entrepreneurship teams of Ningbo. Civil Engineering was selected as the provincial first-class discipline (class B), Ningbo key discipline (class A), while the Civil Engineering major was selected as the provincial first-class undergraduate specialty of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, Ningbo Greater Bay Area Construction Engineering and Technology Research Center was co-established with many enterprises, with Professor Lee Chack-fan, the academician of Chinese Academy of engineering as its director.

The School consists of 3 teaching and research institutions, namely, the Institute of Geotechnical and Municipal Engineering, the Institute of Structure and Bridge Engineering and the Institute of Engineering Management. The Civil Engineering Experimental Center under the School is equipped with 9 professional labs of Engineering Surveying, Civil Engineering Material, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnical and Road, Structure and Bridge, Engineering Management Information, BIM, Civil Engineering Structural Fatigue and Durability, all of which cover a total building area of over 6,000 square meters and witness a total investment of nearly $4 million in instruments and equipment.

The School is committed to promoting scientific research and improving social service. In the past five years, more than 300 scientific research projects have been approved, including 20 national, 16 provincial and ministerial projects, 12 projects entrusted by companies worth more than $11 million. More than 80 papers have been collected by SCI or EI journals, 56 national invention patents have been authorized, and 5 science and technology awards at provincial, ministerial or municipal levels have been obtained.

With an enduring dedication to talent nurturing, the School pays much attention to enhancing students’ innovation capabilities.
