Four NIT students – Gu Xiaohong, Guan Hongqin, Dong Binbin, and Gao Zhiqin, have recently passed the National Judicial Examination with high scores of 399, 373, 420, and 372 respectively.

What else do these girls have in common? Well, they are all majoring in Law, and they all live in Room 224, Building 30. Their curve-wrecking high grades have earned their dormitory room this odd moniker. Gu Xiaohong is the class monitor, Guan Hongqin is vice-monitor, Dong Binbin is the study commissary. Gao Zhiqin? Oh, she just likes to wreck the grading curves for other students with her usual high grades. The four have all won academic scholarships and have been awarded the ‘Triple-A’ student rating. One of them has even won a National Scholarship!

The National Judicial Examination is regarded as one of the most difficult of the Professional Quality Examinations. With a typically low pass rate, the certification awarded for passing this exam is one of the most valuable credentials a student can have when it comes to job recruitment. Gu Xiaohong commented, “During the 2013 summer vacation, we would wake up at 6 AM to attend training classes. At the end of the day, when we returned to our dormitory, we would often stay up studying until midnight or into the wee hours of the morning.” Gu admitted that preparing for the exam was quite intense, and she often didn’t get enough sleep. However, she continued to make consistent efforts, and it paid off for her in the end. She added, “When confronted with such pressure, we often felt like giving up, but we didn’t. We gave each other the necessary encouragement and support, confronting the pressure together. Since we have been at NIT, we have pulled together to gain a strong academic foundation. For a long time, we’ve had the goal of passing the National Judicial Examination together. Our best ally over the years has perhaps been our consistent daily routine, which enabled us to surmount difficulties. Guan Hongqin remarked, “Our success is partly due to our individual efforts, but the solidarity we each enjoyed from our roommates played the most significant role.”

Never satisfied with simply wrecking grading curves, these four students continue marching onward in lockstep to achieve new goals. Gu Xiaohong observed, “Now that we’ve passed the Judicial Exam, three of us plan to pass the notoriously difficult Civil Servant Examination, and one has decided to accept a position as an intern at a bank. We’re ready for whatever comes, and we’ll continue to work together as we have in the past to meet future challenges.
