Over 70 disabled athletes from Yinzhou District, Ningbo, gathered together in the first ever district-level Aquatic Sports Competition for the Disabled which officially kicked off on October 16th at Yunlong Canoeing Training Base. Officials from the Disabled Persons’ Federation of Yinzhou District, staff members from the base and student volunteers from the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, NingboTech, were also there to cheer up for contestants.

In the 200-meter straight canoeing races for the hearing-impaired and limb-impaired groups as well as 2-kilometer land ergometer team relay races, athletes brought out the best of themselves, showcasing tenacity and perseverance. Student volunteers, defying all the inconvenience caused by language barrier, fulfilled their duties in a responsible manner. They helped athletes put on life jackets, get on and off canoes, assist with athlete assembly, distribution of lunch and emergency response, which greatly contributed to a smooth and successful conclusion of the competition.

Jointly guided by Ningbo Volunteer Federation and the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Yongshang LEI Feng Volunteer and Service Team, named after LEI Feng, a household name for his dedication to helping people around him, aims to carry forward the fine virtues of the Chinese nation and spirits of Comrade LEI. The competition served as an important platform, encouraging university students to shoulder social responsibilities by caring for those in need and contribute to the charitable undertaking.
