Forum on Port-Business-City Integrated Development

Forum on Port-Business-City Integrated Development was held on October 14th at NingboTech University. Presided over by Prof. MIAO Qing, Dean of Business School, the forum was hosted by the university's Business School and Development and Planning Office.

Addressing the forum, LU Dongming, Vice President of the university, extended warm welcome to officials, experts, teachers and students present, and noted that the university has always seen it as its responsibility and mission to contribute to regional and national economic development. He stressed that the university has prioritized port development and manufacturing, two areas of the utmost importance to the city. Thus, he hoped that positive results could be achieved during the forum.

Dr. ZHAO Nan delivered a keynote speech, in which she introduced the theories related to port-business-city integrated development, difficulties faced by China as it strives to realize port-business-city integrated development and domestic and foreign experience and also advised on future development.

Prof. CHEN Longfei gave a brief introduction to the landmark events in the history of Zhoushan Port and analyzed its strengths and weaknesses by comparing it with world's leading ports. He then suggested that port-business-city integrated development is now hampered by problems like backward green development and a lack of coordination and rigid institutional mechanisms. Only by addressing those problems head-on can integrated development be realized.

In the subsequent roundtable session, ZHANG Shuiqing, Chief Economist of Ningbo Development Plan Research Institute, CHENG Zhengkui, Director of the Consulting Committee of the Municipal Government of Ningbo, LI Zhao of Policy Research Institute of Ningbo Committee of the Communist Party of China, FENG Yangwen, Deputy General Manager of Ningbo Shipping Exchange, and WANG Xiaojing, Ningbo Institute of Oceanography, shared their views about plans to promote port-business-city integrated development, evolution of relationship among ports, cities and industries, development of coastal metropolises, big data in the shipping industry and construction of Meishan Port.
