Professor REN Qilong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, delivered a lecture on molecular identification and separation engineering technology and its application on October 27th. The event was presided over by FANG Zhengping, Dean of the School of Biological and Chemical Engineering.

Prof. REN illustrated the importance of separation engineering in the chemical industry from five aspects: trends of and challenges faced by separation engineering, molecular identification adsorption separation, molecular identification extraction separation, molecular identification membrane separation and the prospect of separation engineering.

He also answered students' questions about the experiments mentioned in the lecture and how to cope with the difficulties they encountered during the scientific research. After the lecture, he coached teachers of the School of Biological and Chemical Engineering on how to apply for projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation.

Notes: Academician Ren Qilong serves as Director of Key Laboratory of Biomass Chemical Engineering (Ministry of Education), head of Zhejiang University's Industrial Technology Transformation Research Institute, head of the Institute of Zhejiang University-Quzhou,Vice President of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, etc. Having long been engaged in applied basic research and engineering practice in the field of chemical separation, he has helped realize the efficient manufacturing of several high-end chemical and pharmaceutical products by solving several major problems in the industry, which has in turn yielded remarkable economic and social benefits. He has published over 200 SCI or EI-indexed papers and received over 90 authorized patents. He received the second National Technology Invention Award twice as the lead inventor, one first Povincial Science and Technology Award, and other prestigious awards.

As one of the founding members of the School, REN greatly facilitated the School's development in its early days. Having always been following the development of the university, REN, together with around a dozen academicians, advised on the university's 14th Five-Year Plan on September 11th.
