DENG Meng, teacher of the School of Biological and Chemical Engineering, won the first prize in the 1st Ningbo Bilingual Teaching Skill Competition for College Teachers sponsored by Ningbo Education Bureau and Ningbo Union of Teachers and organized by NingboTech University on November 19th.

DENG focused her teaching demonstration on Polymer Viscoelasticity, an important concept in polymer physics. One of the core courses for the major of Polymer Materials and Engineering, “Polymer Physics” has been reformed for three times by the team led by Prof. FANG Zhengping, and over a dozen relevant papers and two textbooks have been published so far. The course has been rated as first-class both in the university and the province.
Since there are a lot of abstract concepts and theories and complicated calculation process involved in polymer physics, DENG adopted the blended teaching model and the teaching strategy of Anchored Instruction. Using fluent English and vivid examples in a perfectly coherent teaching process, DENG made it easier for students to understand the concept and relevant phenomena.
The competition was held with the aim of assessing college teachers' bilingual teaching competence based on their teaching design, demonstration and reflection. A total of 21 teachers from 14 colleges and universities took part in the final.
