On March 25th, 2016, Ningbo Institute of Women Studies was founded at NIT. More than 200 representatives and experts attended the founding ceremony, which included representatives from universities in Ningbo, members of Ningbo Association of Women Studies and heads of the relevant departments of NIT. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Jin Pengnian, Dean of the School of Law and Politics.

Professor Fei Yingqin, Party Secretary of NIT, and Yang Xiaoduo, Chairman of Ningbo Womens Federation, unveiled the nameplate for the institute together. This institute was co-established by Ningbo Women s Federation and Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University. The Faculty at the School of Law and Politics in NIT will undertake the major tasks. Mei Lehe, Vice President of NIT, was elected Director of the Institute and Jin Pengnian was elected Executive Director. The institute aims at the development of women in cities in the field of marriage and family.
The Fifth Conference of Ningbo Association of Women Studies was held that morning. In the afternoon, Ningbo Forum of Womens Development was held. Professor Guo Xiajuan, from the School of Public Management, Zhejiang University, gave a report on gender equality in the society, which was warmly welcomed by the attendees.
