Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, was recently ranked first among Chinese independent colleges in the Top Ten Chinese Independent Colleges Ranking, which was released in 2016 as a part of a nationwide Chinese Universities Evaluation. Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) ranked second. This is the fourth successive year for NIT to top Chinese Independent Colleges Ranking.
The ranking methods for Chinese independent colleges require that they meet at least three of the following four criteria: (1) the college must rank in the ;top 25 of all independent colleges in terms of total number of bachelor degrees awarded, (2) the college must rank in the ;top 25 in programs that enhance the innovativeness of teachers, (3) the college must rank in the ;top 25 in terms of the overall academic performances of its teachers, and (4) the college must have programs that cultivate masters degree graduate programs in cooperation with other universities.
Wu Shulian, an expert in the field of Chinese university evaluation, pointed out how difficult it was for NIT to receive the top ranking among the countrys high-level independent colleges. In 2013, only nine colleges were nominated in the ranking system of the countrys high-level independent colleges. Wu added that the No. 1 ranking clearly demonstrates that NIT has become a truly advanced and outstanding college.
