On November 7, 2015, the Sixth National Congress and the 9th Academic Annual Conference of China Institute of Biological Engineering were held in Shanghai East China University of Science and Technology. More than 400 delegates from across the country attended the meeting. One of its key agenda was the general election of the Council of the Institute. Professor Mei Lehe, on behalf of Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology, was elected Director of China Institute of Biological Engineering.
China Institute of Biological Engineering was established in Beijing On June 7, 1993. It was approved by the China Association for Science and Technology, registered at Ministry of Civil Affairs. Its first Director-general was the renowned geneticist and academician, Tan Jiazhen.
