On May 4, 2015, Huallywood Film Theory Conference themed “Transnational and Cross-cultural” was held at NIT. More than 300 specialists and scholars from China, Britain, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia attended the symposium.

There are four lectures in the morning. Professor SHAO Peiren, Dean of Institute of Communication, Zhejiang University, Dean of the School of Media and Design, NIT, shed light on why Huallywood film theory should be based on Cross-national and Cross-cultural perspectives. Professor LIN Songhui focused on the possibility of taking “Transnational” as a method, based on the conception of “transnational cinema”. Professor SHI Chuan discussed experience in cities and collective memories expressed in Shanghai and Hong Kong movies. Professor SUN Shaoyi summarized and evaluated some theoretical questions about the research on transnational films.
In the afternoon, based on the conception of transnational cinema, Dr. Sarah Wright, London University, described in details the possibility for Huallywood to have cooperation with the worldwide research network, “The Children and Nation in World Cinema”, an organization guided by her, which has established very good relationship with Royal Holloway, University of London, University of Cambridge, the University of New South Wales and NIT.
