Professor Yao Xianguo, Academic Navigation Professor of NIT, was recently employed as Senior Professor of Arts by Zhejiang University. Professor Yao thus becomes the first scholar of arts in Zhejiang University who are entitled to the treatment of academicians.
Senior Professor of Arts is the highest academic post and academic honor in the field of arts in Zhejiang University, whose purpose is to promote the academic level in the basic disciplines, to guide the new interdisciplinary disciplines, to form a team to study major problems of the time and to establish the first-class think bank. The post has a nick name, “Liberal Academician”, among students in Zhejiang University, for its payment is equal to that of academicians in Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Engineering Academy.
Professor Yao was born in Huanrong County, Hunan Province in 1953. He graduated as a Master of Economy from FUdan University. He is currently Dean of Social Sciences in Zhejiang University, academically interested in labor and social insurance, personnel capital investment, public administration, economic transition. He ever led 53 major projects and published a dozen of books and more than 130 papers in renowned periodicals at home and abroad.
