Recently, the 5th Business Oral English competition, also called the “Zhelun Overseas Cup,” was held on campus by the Tourism Association of NIT.

Eight groups from different NIT faculties qualified for the final round of the competition. Of these eight groups, seven were third-year students and one consisted of sophomores. In a result that surprised judges and audience alike, the group of sophomores won the 1st prize!

Although all of the competitors adequately demonstrated their well-honed Business English skills, the younger students managed to triumph. How did they do it? When the competition was over, several students were interviewed and asked for their take on the surprise win. As it happens, the sophomores were not English majors when they entered NIT, but transferred to that major after their first year of study. They therefore shared a sincere interest in learning the English language, and were highly motivated to ;catch up with the other English majors. As was clear to all, the talent and diligence of these hardworking students is already paying off.

One of the audience members spoke highly of this years oral Business English competition: “Im so glad I didnt miss it! I enjoyed watching and listening to the contestants when they appeared on-stage, and their sincere efforts have definitely inspired me to work harder on developing my own oral English skills.
