Dr. Zhang Haolan of the NIT School of Management was recently honored with the ;Best Paper award at the 3rd International Conference on Health Information Science. The conference was held in Shenzhen from April 21st through 23rd at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, and was sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences . Academic representatives from China, the USA, Australia, England, Canada, South Africa, Germany, and other EU countries attended the conference. Keynote speakers included Professor Robert Howard Grubbs, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize, and Xing Lei, a renowned professor at Stanford University.

Following extensive assessment by committee members, Dr. Zhangs paper, entitled “Discovering new analytical methods for large-volume medical and online data processing”, received the coveted ;Best Paper award. The paper described ways to reduce the processing dimensions of large volumes of data, especially medical data, using iSOM and UV decomposition techniques, and included research results to demonstrate the efficiency of this approach. Dr. Zhang and his team plan to conduct further research at NIT based on his findings.

During the conference, Dr. Zhang exchanged ideas on academics and technical subjects with Professor Grubbs and with Kendall Ho of UBC.
