On October 1st, the Kyokushin Karate China Open was held at Nanjing Medicine University stadium. The competition was hosted by the Boxing and Taekwondo Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration, and the Sports Bureau of Jiangsu province, and was organized by the Social Sports Management Center, the Sports Bureau, and the Karate Association of Jiangsu Province.

The NIT Karate Association selected Zhou Liancheng, Zhou Jiayuan, Wu Rumin, and Wang Jiantao to participate in the tournament under the guidance of coach He Xianbo. One of the NIT athletes,Zhou Liancheng, distinguished himself by winning the runner-up position in the intermediate middleweight class.
