NIT Welcomes First Foreign Professor

On September 9th, the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering welcomed its first foreign professor, Kostyantyn Shestopalov, to the NIT campus. Dr. Shestopalov, who was born in Ukraine, was warmly received by President Jin Weiliang.

Dr. Shestopalov graduated from the Ukraine National Academy of Science in Odessa, and received his doctorate in 2006. Since then, he has been engaged in research work on refrigeration, heat transfer and thermodynamics, and has published nearly 30 papers on these subjects.

Over the next two years, Dr. Shestopalov will do research in low grade waste heat utilization together with his tutor, Professor Chen Guangming, a San Jiang Scholar in residence at NIT. They hope so make achievements in various technology areas, including a process whereby ice can be produced on fishing boats by utilizing the heat from their engines.

The Presidents Office, Department of Personnel, Department of Foreign Affairs, and other NIT departments did a great deal of preparatory work in order to ensure the smooth introduction of Dr. Shestopalov to China and his enrollment as a member of the schools engineering faculty.

Wang Longshan, President of the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, pointed out that Dr. Shestopalov will play an important role in the schools development by contributing advanced teaching ideas and valuable research experience. His presence at NIT will also enhance the schools reputation as an international platform for academic and scientific research. Wang also pointed out that the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering will continue to open itself to high-level overseas talents in order to ensure its academic excellence moving forward.
