NIT Team Succeeds in 3rd “People’s Electrical Appliance Cup” National Debate

In the 3rd Peoples Electrical Appliance Cup college students debate on national policy , the NIT debate team, together with teams from 16 other universities including Tsinghua University, Fudan University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, earned entry to the finals after fierce competition against debaters from hundreds of schools. In the final rounds, the NIT debate team, composed of Lu Haochen, Xu Dingli, Jin Danlu, Yang Fan, Xia Xiang and Chen Yu, won third place. Lu Haochen also won the title of “best debater” in two of the rounds.

In the third round of the preliminaries, the NIT debate team triumphed over the team from Lanzhou University of Technology on the topic, “Should mainland China levy taxes on all e-commerce transactions?” In this round, Lu Haochen won his first “best debater” title. On the topic, “Should mainland China fully implement an official property declaration system?” the NIT team edged out the Tsinghua University team during the fourth round. Displaying his thoughtful and incisive style, Lu Haochen was once again awarded the “best debater” title. In the semifinals, however, the NIT debaters were defeated by the team from Hong Kong Baptist University and ended up in a tie for third place with China University of Mining and Technology.

The 3rd Peoples Electrical Appliance Cup debate competition aims to promote communication between schools and enterprises, as well as innovation in science and technology. This year, it was held in Shanghai from August 25th to August 30th. The competition was sponsored by the Jiading District of Shanghai, Peoples Electrical Appliance Group, and Shanghai University. It was organized by the Science and Technology Commission of Jiading District, the Communist Youth League Committee of Shanghai University, Peoples Electrical Appliance Group Shanghai Co., Ltd., the Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce, and the Jiading Debate Association of Shanghai University.

The NIT debate team was founded in 2006. Since then, the team has won several honors, such as third place in the College Students Science Debate invitational tournament and second place in the Senhe Cup university debate tournament.
