The sixth ;Higher Education Cup National Competition in Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling was held recently at South China Agricultural University. NIT students Hu Shouyi, Hu Dongshan and Qian Peng from the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering won the second prize in manual drawing and information modeling, respectively.

This competition, which is widely considered to be the “Olympic Games” of graphics-oriented technology, was sponsored by the Higher Learning Engineering Graphics Teaching Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Committee of Chinese Graphics Drawing Technology, and Committee of Chinese Graphics Product Information Modeling. The competition, which is divided into four categories — machinery design, building construction, bridge engineering, and water conservancy — tests students engineering design ability. Taking part in the competition were 1212 students from 126 institutions in China.

After a one-month period of training over the summer vacation, seven NIT students under the guidance of Zhang Xuechang and Liu Yonggang achieved excellent results in the competition. The motto of this years competition was “Race in competition; learn in competition.” It realized its stated goal to promote learning through competition. This kind of competition is useful because it not only broadens students horizons and consolidates their professional knowledge, but also improves their ability to innovate and collaborate.
