Recently, the NIT debate team achieved the distinction of placing in the top ten finalists of the national 5th CDA (China Debate Association) network debate competition. This annual online contest was first organized in 2009 by the Eloquence Network Contention, a highly-ranked Chinese website. A total of 78 teams from various colleges and universities participated in this years debate.
The NIT ;semantic platform network debate team was composed of 10 members including Lu Haochen, Ge Hao, Yang Chong, and Zhao Zhonghui. Our debaters bested teams from Xiamen University and the Shanghai University of Engineering Science in quick succession to place in the top ten. Then, in a debate on the topic “Should remote medical insurance enjoy the same treatment? ” NIT was defeated by the combined teams of Zhejiang Agriculture & Forestry University and Anhui Agricultural University, and failed to rise further in the rankings. As an additional accomplishment, one of our team members, Ge Hao, won the title of “best debater”.
The NIT debate team was founded in 2006 as part of the Student Union. That year, as a result of rigorous daily training, and the long-term guidance of Mr. Zhang Mingde, the team achieved third place in the 2006 College Students Science Debate invitational tournament, and second place in the "Senhe Cup" university debate tournament. The excellent performance of the NIT debate team in the 2012 5th CDA competition has added yet another record to enhance our growing reputation as a school of great debaters.
