In celebration of Arbor Day, NIT held a tree planting activity on March 12th under the slogan, “Plant a Tree; Make NIT Greener”. This was the 35th such tree-planting activity sponsored by NIT, and over a hundred teachers and students joined in the fun.

The many nature and ;green lifestyle enthusiasts – young and old – dug holes, shoveled soil, added fertilizer, and watered 50 young cherry trees planted along the banks of the NIT River. In so doing, they expressed their interest in the environment and beautifying our campus in a wonderfully practical way. Soon, these cherry trees will be old enough to spread clouds of fragrant pink petals across the sky.

Meanwhile, another activity called “Plant Trees in Warm Spring; Spread Green in NIT” is being jointly organized by the Green Committee and the Green Wind Environment Association. They are using LED display screens and posters to promote awareness of environmental protection issues, and to appeal to NIT staff and students to actively participate in the construction of a ;green (environmentally-friendly) campus.

On the afternoon of March 11th, several student clubs joined in another volunteer tree planting activity in Yinzhou. This event was co-sponsored by the Green Committee and Youth League Committee and the Yinzhou Landscaping Administration. Teacher Sheng Jingjing led a team of about 40 students who planted nearly 300 trees, including flowering camellias and metasequoias. The result was a notable contribution to the environment in our area of Ningbo.

NITs environmental organizations have recently won several awards in the category “Garden Type Unit” in recognition of their many tree-planting and related ;green activities, including the Ningbo Urban Vegetation Contribution Award for Management and Maintenance of Turf.
