On May 15th, the first session of Model United Nations (MUN) was held at SC405 with the attendance of students from different majors.

The conference was a simulation of the United Nations enabling students to come together to discuss and debate current world issues. Teachers from the School of Foreign Languages and the head of the Model United Nations Association of the University of Nottingham, Ningbo were invited as judges and advisors.
The topic of the conference was “the abuse of science and technology”. Students have researched a country and investigated the international issue beforehand. During the conference, they took on the roles as diplomats, debated, deliberated, consulted, and helped develop solutions to this world problem.
In the process, participants employed a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their delegations. These skills include public speaking, group communication, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking and technical writing.
The MUN gave an insightful look into how things are done at UN, helped develop students global perspective, and ensured a memorable experience.
