September 1st was enrollment day for the NIT freshmen class of 2012. More than 3000 bright, new students filled with passion and expectation arrived on campus, infusing the university with new life and energy. The school leadership attached great importance to the freshman orientation process by personally guiding and inspecting the work.
To make the orientation process more convenient for the freshmen and their parents, NIT set up reception areas at the Ningbo Southern Bus Station, Ningbo Passenger Transportation Centre, and the Ningbo East Railway Station. School buses ferried new arrivals from the stations to the campus, and also provided return transporation for visiting parents.
At the campus, teachers and student volunteers arose early in the morning to greet the freshmen at the NIT school gate. Around 8 AM, school buses began arriving at the campus, one after the other. Volunteers from the various NIT schools displayed their faculty banners to welcome the freshmen. They also helped them carry luggage and register, and then escorted the new students to their dormitories. On the way, the volunteers introduced the freshmen to the school and its many facilities.
“Although its tiring, I feel very happy. Its well worth doing something for my younger brothers and sisters,” a volunteer said. Every volunteer was great; they not only shared their enthusiasm with every freshman, but also embodied the spirit and warmth of academic life at NIT.
