On 29th Dec., 2016, School of Computer and Data Engineering was declared to be founded by President Jin Weliang at NIT. Zhang Minghua, Vice Mayor of Ningbo Municipal Government, Fei Yingqin, Secretary of the Party Committee of NIT, Prof. Yang Jiangang, Vice President of NIT, Prof. Pang Chaoyi, Dean of the School of Computer and Data Engineering; Zhang Fengqian, Inspector of Ningbo Agriculture Bureau attended the ceremony.

At this ceremony, Ningbo Smart Agricultural Institute was also declared to be founded. President Jin Weiliang delivered a speech at the ceremony. He stressed that the establishment of this school was to promote the construction of smart city and agricultural modernization. He expressed his wish that the Institute would catch this opportunity to serve the community.
