The Appointment Ceremony for Dean of the School of Design

Prof. LUO Shijian, a young scholar of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” under the Ministry of Education, was officially appointed Dean of the School of Design during the appointment ceremony presided over by Prof. ZHANG Xianmin, Vice President of NingboTech on the morning of July 27th. Academician YANG Deren, President of the University, issued a certificate of appointment for Professor LUO following the speech delivered by Prof. HU Zhengyu, Party Secretary of the University.

On behalf of the university, Prof. HU expressed warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Prof. LUO and his team for joining the University. He pointed out that the appointment of Prof. LUO was a strategic measure for NingboTech to effectively spearhead the integration of Ningbo’s design industry, as well as an innovative exploration of the management mechanism. He hoped that the newly established School of Design would take this as a driving force and the “14th Five-Year Plan” as an opportunity to strengthen scientific planning and achieve better and faster development under the leadership of Professor LUO.

Prof. YANG put forward specific requirements for the future development of the School of Design. He emphasized that all the faculty members should get on the same page and support Prof. LUO in building the University among “first-class in the province, top 100 in the country”.

Prof. LUO thanked the university officials as well as teachers and students of the School of Design for their vote of confidence. He said that he would live up to everyone’s expectations by building the School into a harmonious, healthy and prosperous family and an influential design institute in China.

Prof. LUO, deputy director of Department of Industrial Design, College of Computer Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, is young scholar of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” under the Ministry of Education (2018). He has devoted himself to design studies, published more than 100 SCI and EI collected academic papers and 8 books and won over 20 awards in renowned international design competitions. He has also been in charge of or in participate in a number of major projects at the national-, provincial- or municipal-level.
