GAO Yunjun, Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, gave an academic report entitled“DB Meets AI: Fusion of DB and AI” on March 16th, kicking off a series of academic lectures in celebration of the 20th anniversary of NingboTech University. Presided over by LIN Huaizhong, head of Research Office, the event was attended by PANG Chaoyi and CHEN Genlang, Dean and Vice Dean, respectively, of the School of Computing and Data Engineering, as well as faculty members and student representatives.
Prof. GAO began his academic report by expounding on the research background and significance of big data intelligence. He further elaborated on the current progress made by the research team he worked in in theories and methodology of big data intelligence, which was followed by an enlightening presentation on how AI can make database more intelligent (AI4DB) and how database techniques can optimize AI models (DB4AI).
Notes: Gao Yunjun, doctoral supervisor and Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, has received National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars. He is now Deputy Director of Computer Software Institute of Zhejiang University and Deputy Director of Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Big Data Intelligence. His primary research areas are database, big data management and analytics, and AI interaction with DB technology. He has published more than 80 papers in top academic journals or conferences at home and abroad, such as TODS and VLDBJ.
