YU Jiawei, an alumnus of the School of Design, recently won the IF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2021. Known as Oscar in design, IF DESIGN AWARD is one of the three most prestigious and celebrated design competitions in the world, the other two being Red Dot and IDEA. Specifically welcoming participation of students and young designers around the world, IF DESIGN TALENT AWARD has a rigorous selection procedure, which means only 1% of entries win the award.

YU’s award-winning entry “Plant Hospital”, a public interaction product dedicated to helping urban dwellers rescue and cure home-grown plants, is inspired by the fact that there is a lack of knowledge about the habits of plants and how to treat sick plants. The design consists of six functional areas: diagnosis and rescue, hosting, fertilizer, share, recovery, and training. Users could first choose the services they need using their cellphones and then send plants to the hospital for treatment. Plants in a critical condition would be admitted to the hospital ward where they could recover in the most comfortable environment.
