At the invitation of Ningbo Managers' Academy, Prof. YANG Deren, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of NingboTech University, delivered a lecture on the current status and progress of solar photovoltaic silicon in China at the advanced training course on new material industry organized by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on April 15th. Officials from the department and representatives from local material and chemical engineering enterprises attended the lecture.

Academician YANG has been engaged in the research of silicon, a material that is known as the foundation of the technological and industrial development of microelectronics, for thirty years, with his research results having won the prestigious National Natural Science Award twice. He introduced the current development of silicon solar cells at home and abroad, advantages of silicon and major application of semi-conductor silicon, and then focused his lecture on the market share of photovoltaic silicon industry globally, manufacturing conditions and processing technology. He also noted that China has made phenomenal achievements in silicon-based solar photovoltaics thanks to its rich silicon reserve, favorable environment and low manufacturing cost. He also expected further breakthroughs in low cost and quality crystalline silicon technology. Academician YANG then exchanged ideas and views with the attendees.

Officials from the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region looked forward to future cooperation with Ningbo in new materials and cadre training.
