GAO Zepu, national model worker and chief engineer of Ningbo Xingjian Astronautics Machinery Co., Ltd., delivered a speech on how to be a patriotic contributor to the quality development of the manufacturing industry at the invitation of NingboTech University before International Workers' Day. Officiated at by TONG Weixing, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the School of Mechatronics and Energy Engineering, the lecture was attended by over 200 teachers and students.
GAO Zepu, a renowned expert in R&D and technology of aerospace ground equipment and high pressure, the special fluid control system and its components, has won various awards like the first and third prizes of the Aerospace Science and Technology Advancement Award, and was selected Model Worker in Ningbo in 2013, Model Worker in Zhejiang Province in 2014 and National Model Worker in 2015. The lecture touched upon five aspects: "My love of and devotion to aerospace", "China's aerospace industry and aerospace spirit", "the spirit of model workers and craftsmanship", "basic requirements for manufacturing engineers" and "to be a contributor to the quality development of manufacturing industry".
During the National Day Military Parade back in 1999, Mr. GAO displayed the equipment developed by his team in Tian’anmen Square for inspection by the country and Chinese people. Recalling that experience, GAO said with emotion that it was his lifelong dream to dedicate himself to the cause of aerospace. His passion and patriotism were admired by attendees. He believed that the spirit of craftsmanship featuring dedication, high standard, concentration and innovation is what is highly valued in this new era. As a manufacturing engineer, GAO noted that manufacturing is the pillar of this city, and that technicians are supposed to be responsible and active.
GAO emphasized that China needs to transform itself from a major manufacturer to an innovative power. Since intelligent manufacturing, in the final analysis, is all about manufacturing, it’s imperative to constantly promote the quality development of this industry. By saying so, he encouraged students to be down-to-earth and hard-working.
The lecture, shortly before International Workers' Day, is opportune for students to pay tribute to the working class and learn from model workers. It’s expected that every teacher and student will try to be a hard-working person, so as to make greater contribution to the realization of China's two centenary goals and building NingboTech into a university that is among the first-class in the province and top 100 in the country.
