Two professors join NingboTech University

Prof. MIAO Qing and Prof. HU Jie were recently appointed Dean of Business School and Dean of the School of International Studies respectively. Moderated by LI Fengwang, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NingboTech University, the two appointment ceremonies were attended by HU Zhengyu, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NingboTech University, Vice President ZHANG Xianmin, officials of Organization Office and Human Resources Office as well as teacher representatives.

HU Zhengyu noted that the two professors have impressive academic attainment and rich administrative experience as well. Prof. MIAO has been granted the title of "Changjiang Young Scholar" by the Ministry of Education while Prof. HU Selectee of "New Century Excellent Talents in University of China". He hoped that officials of the two schools could unify and lead the faculty in their strive to upgrade the school's development by seizing opportunities, leveraging disciplinary edges and addressing inadequacies. The two new deans pledged their commitment to more breakthroughs while serving and accommodating both the national development strategy and the university's needs for future growth.

HU then expressed gratitude to Prof. XIAO Wen and Prof. WANG Xiaolu, the two outgoing deans, for their contribution during their tenure. A dozen influential service platforms have been set up, over 100 projects have been approved at the provincial level and above, and thousands of students have graduated since Prof. XIAO was appointed dean back in 2009. During her seven-year tenure, Prof. WANG has made the following achievements possible: The Polish Studies Center has been approved by the Ministry of Education; Yangming Academy has been set up to facilitate disciplinary integration; more teachers have been encouraged to pursue their Ph. D degree or to visit a foreign university.

The new appointments are the latest move in the university's strategy to build up its overall strength by attracting talents. Previously, Prof. LUO Shijian, Changjiang Young Scholar, was appointed Dean of the School of Design and Prof. WU Dazhuan, Zhejiang University's Qiushi Distinguished Professor, was appointed Dean of the School of Mechatronics and Energy Engineering.

Notes: Dr. MIAO Qing, born in 1978, is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor in Zhejiang University's School of Public Affairs. He has been granted the title of "Changjiang Young Scholar" by the Ministry of Education and serves as Chief Expert in the Academy of Social Governance, Zhejiang University, research fellow of the Center of Social Welfare and Governance, Zhejiang University, Vice President of Green Zhejiang, a 5A level NGO, member of the expert committee of Zhejiang Provincial Charity Federation, Associate Editor of Journal of Public Affairs, etc.

Prof. MIAO has long been engaged in teaching of and scientific research on social governance, social enterprises, charity, HR management, etc., and has published four monographs and over 60 papers in international and domestic journals, including Public Administration Review and Public Administration. He has directed six projects at the national level and a dozen at the provincial level.

Prof. HU Jie, born in 1981, obtained her master's degree from the University of York and Ph. D degree from the University of Warwick. She is currently a research fellow of Zhejiang University's "Hundred Talents Program" (Humanities and Social Science, Type A), doctoral supervisor and deputy head of Zhejiang University's Department of Linguistics and Translation Studies. She serves as Chair of IEEE-International Conference on Computer Science and Education, Editor of Mechatronic Systems and Control, an EI-indexed Canadian journal, Editor of International Journal of English Linguistics, Editorial Board Member of Journal of Computer Science Applications and Education, among others. She has directed projects supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, teaching reform projects supported by the Ministry of Education, etc.

She has published many papers as the first or corresponding author in prestigious journals at home and abroad, including the No. 1 SSCI-indexed journal in the field of educational technology and top ten SSCI-indexed journals in the field of linguistics. In addition, she has published one English monograph and two Chinese monographs.
