Dr.TAN Jian was officially appointed Chief Scientist of NingboTech's discipline group of "Smart Port and Service" during the appointment ceremony held on October 20th. Presided over by Vice President LU Dongming, the ceremony was attended by HU Zhengyu, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NingboTech University, YANG Deren, President of the university, LI Fengwang, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NingboTech University, persons in charge of the Office of the Presidents, Organization Office, Publicity Office, Development and Planning Office, Finance Office, General Affairs Office and Property and Laboratory Management Office as well as teacher representatives.
LU Dongming noted that the university is shouldering new responsibilities at a new historical point as this year witnesses its 20th anniversary. It would strive to build itself into a first-class university and ultimately contribute to Ningbo's quality development and common prosperity by synergizing its development plans with the city's overall strategy. He also mentioned that the university would pool all its resources in order to develop two discipline groups, namely port and manufacturing. He then introduced Dr. TAN Jian and extended a warm welcome to him.
Dr. TAN said he was honored to join the university and contribute to its development. He suggested that the discipline group of "Smart Port and Service" is not only a new direction forward but also a strategic challenge as well, and pledged his full commitment to rising up to this challenge.
HU Zhengyu said that the university has laid a solid foundation in areas related to port service industry such as logistics, commerce, data information and environment engineering after years of efforts. The discipline group of "Smart Port and Service" is expected to serve Ningbo as it strives to build itself into an important port city in the world and turn Zhoushan Port into a world's leading port. He believed that the appointment of Dr. TAN would greatly facilitate the development of this discipline group and ensure progress in student training, cross-disciplinary practice and business-university integration.
Notes: Dr. TAN Jian is the first expert in block chain technology to be selected into the National Key Talents Program, and also the founder and CEO of Aletheia, an information technology company. He once served as Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Public Big Data and held professional or senior management positions in Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs and BT Group. He co-founded AvePoint, the world's largest R&D team dedicated to SharePoint outside Microsoft. It has offices in 27 countries and regions around the world and employs more than 2,000 people. Dr. TAN Jian has led a number of projects and obtained seven patents. He obtained his double bachelor's degrees from Peking University, master's degree and doctoral degree from New York University, and master's degree in business administration from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
