Dr. YANG Yong was officially appointed chief scientist of the discipline group of "Digital Design and Manufacturing" during the ceremony held on December 3rd. Presided over by Vice President YANG Canjun, the event was attended by President YANG Deren, HU Zhengyu and LI Fengwang, Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of NingboTech University, and other university officials.
Addressing the ceremony, HU Zhengyu mentioned that the discipline group of "Digital Design and Manufacturing", focusing on accommodating the needs of major special industries and hidden champions dedicated to certain niche market in Ningbo for innovative development, is aimed at improving corporate efficiency and training innovative and enterprising talents in the digital era by breaking major bottlenecks and improving the digital development model integrating "R&D, transformation, incubation and application". It's expected that the discipline group will enhance the university's comprehensive strength, better serve the city and the country as a whole, and contribute Ningbo's experience to the development of digital design and manufacturing. He believed that Dr. YANG Yong's appointment will surely help turn the discipline group into a distinctive platform for talent training, interdisciplinary development and industry-education integration.
YANG Canjun noted that the university would make more intellectual contributions to Ningbo's quality development and common prosperity by pooling all resources as its 20th anniversary this year meant more responsibilities on the way ahead. At this new starting point, more attention should be paid to the university's two discipline groups, the other one being "Smart Port and Service". LI Fengwang then gave a brief introduction to Dr. YANG and extended a warm welcome to him.
Dr. YANG said in his remarks that he was honored to join the university. Having long been working in the field of aerospace manufacturing, he believed the discipline group of "Digital Design and Manufacturing" is not only a new direction but also a strategic challenge for him, faced with which he would shoulder his due responsibilities so as to contribute to the quality development of the university.
Always prioritizing the task of serving Ningbo, the university has shifted its attention to the two discipline groups in a bid to provide intellectual and technical support for the industrial upgrading of this city. On this October 20th, Dr. TAN Jian was appointed chief scientist of the discipline group of "Smart Port and Service", who is the first expert in block chain technology to have been selected into the National Key Talents Program, the founder and CEO of Aletheia, an information technology company, and a deputy to the municipal People's Congress.
Notes: Dr. YANG Yong is currently a member of the 12th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and has been selected as an innovative talent of the National Key Talents Program. He received his doctoral degree from National University of Singapore and was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology. Having long been engaged in research on metal additive manufacturing, he is one of the earliest promoters of GM's application of additive manufacturing technology in aviation. He has received research grants from businesses and local governments for many times. The total funds of the projects he has led are more than 15 million dollars, and he has nearly 30 patents. Dr. YANG said that he hoped what he learned and accumulated during the extended period when he was engaged in aerospace research could facilitate the discipline group of "Digital Design and Manufacturing", and that was his original aspiration when he first set foot on this city.
