ZHENG Ruonan, an English major, reported on how young volunteers in China played a leading role in eliminating TB at the 54th Union World Conference on Lung Health held in Paris, France on November 17th on behalf of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

In her report entitled "A critical role of young volunteers in knowledge sharing in TB prevention and control: Case study from China—Shoulder to shoulder: youth ignites the path to a TB-free future with a flicker of resilience", ZHENG gave a detailed account of the TB prevention and control campaign launched by China's National Health Commission back in 2012. Over the past 11 years, China has mobilized over one million volunteers nationwide, nearly half of them young people, to actively participate in TB prevention and control. Through a variety of activities, Chinese volunteers have played an important role in raising social awareness of the disease, disseminating relevant knowledge to the public, facilitating early detection of TB patients, providing care and mental support for patients, and launching anti-discrimination and de-stigmatization campaigns. She also demonstrated the unique practices that NingboTech University has adopted to mobilize the youth for TB prevention and treatment. She concluded her speech by making a clarion call to all people out there: Join us in the fight against tuberculosis!

Young representatives from Nigeria, Indonesia and Canada also gave keynote reports on the personal experience of combating TB, the mental health of young TB patients, and the strategies for eliminating TB in remote communities.
