School of Information Science and Engineering

The School of Information Science and Engineering has 3 research institutes of Information and Electronic Technology, Automation and Electrical Engineering, and New Electrical and Electronic Technology.

It offers 3 undergraduate programs of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Automation as well as Electronic Information Engineering in 2019. Automation is an emerging major with characteristics in Zhejiang Province and a key specialty in Ningbo.

The School has a cohort of nearly 1000 undergraduates and 25 graduates. Among 61 staff members, 7 are professors, 10 associate professors and 82% have doctoral degrees. It possesses an experimental center with 10 laboratories including the Laboratory for Robots with Intelligent Perception. The total value of experimental teaching instruments and equipment is $2.5 million.

The School attaches great importance to academic exchanges and cooperation with colleges and universities at home and abroad. In recent years, many teachers have been selected as visiting scholars to other universities and scientific research institutions. Since 2011, the School has set up “3+1+1” joint nurturing project with Queen's University of Belfast, which has seen participant of nearly 30 students. Recently it has also been engaged in exchanges and cooperation with universities like Cranfield University (Britain), University of Plymouth (Britain), Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia) and I-Shou University (Taiwan, China).

Students have been involved in various contests and competitions likerobot competitions for university students, National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest and World Robotic Sailing Championships. In the past 3 years, students have won more than 130 awards at or above the provincial level, including 11 at the national level and 16 at the international level.

At present, nearly 4,000 students have graduated from the School with an employment rate kept at above 95%. Enjoying promising job opportunities, many of them have worked for government institutions or famous companies which speak highly of their performance. An increasing number of students have chosen to further their studies at home or abroad with over 100 having been admitted successfully in the past 4 years, including the University of Manchester (Britain), Queen's University of Belfast (Britain), the University of Sydney (Australia), Anhui University (China), Nanjing University of Science and Technology (China), etc. A number of entrepreneurs and technical experts have emerged among the alumni.
