NINGBOTECH UNIVERSITY

School of Mechatronics and Energy Engineering

Always taking talent nurturing at its core, the School of Mechatronics and Energy Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate programs.

“Mechanical Engineering” is listed as the provincial first-class discipline, “Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation” as the provincial key disciplines, “Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation” as the provincial emerging major with characteristics, “Mechanical and Electronic Engineering” as the municipal key discipline. It has also set up Zhejiang Demonstration Base for Integrated Innovation of Intelligent Equipment, Zhejiang Demonstration Center for Experiment Teaching and Ningbo Intelligent Manufacturing College.

The School has 4 undergraduate majors of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Energy and Environmental System Engineering as well as Mechanical Engineering.

There are nearly 80 staff members in the School, including 16 professors, 22 associate professors, 3 doctoral supervisors, 25 master’s supervisors and 2foreign teachers. 82% of the teachers have doctoral degrees, 6 have been selected into Zhejiang talent projects, and 9 as Ningbo leading and top-notch talents.

The School possesses a provincial-level Demonstration Center for Experiment Teaching of Electromechanical and Energy, with 6 labs of Electromechanical Engineering, Modern Manufacturing Engineering, Energy and Environment, Theoretical Mechanics and Material Mechanics, plus Engineering Training Center. Occupying an area of 6,080 square meters, the Center has more than 1,900 sets of instruments and equipment and $5.5 million worth of fixed assets.

Focusing on disciplinary building based on advanced manufacturing industry in Zhejiang province, the School has directed its disciplinary development in four directions, namely, intelligent manufacturing equipment, intelligent measurement and control equipment, green energy equipment and smart packaging equipment. It has established the Institute of Modern Manufacturing Engineering, the Institute of Electromechanical, Measurement and Control Engineering, the Institute of Energy and Environmental Engineering and so on. With regard to disciplinary and scientific research platforms, it possesses provincial key disciplines, provincial first-class disciplines, provincial key laboratories, R&D and Service Center for New Marine Aquaculture Equipment under the State Oceanic Administration, etc. In the past five years, the School has witnessed a continuous increase in the number of scientific research projects and corresponding funds, including the National Natural Science Foundation projects. Faculty members have published more than 440 academic papers in various journals, including almost 300 on SCI and EI journals, and created over 150 national authorized invention patents.

Guided by social demands and committed to improving teaching quality, the School has formed a model to nurture application-oriented talents with high-quality. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 20 educational research and reform projects from the Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Province, won 12 provincial and municipal teaching achievements, and published 3 undergraduate textbooks included in the national plans. It has entered cooperation with 48 employers and actively encouraged and guided students to participate in various scientific and technological practice and training so as to improve their innovation ability in those fields. Thanks to those efforts, in the past five years, students have seen more than 30 scientific and technological innovation projects approved at or above the provincial level, obtained more than 40 patents for papers and over 340 prizes in competitions at and above the provincial level. 98% of students landed a job before graduation, more than 260 continued their studies at home or abroad, and over 130 people successfully started their own businesses. In 2017 and 2018, 18% chose to study for graduate programs, many admitted by Zhejiang University, Jinan University, Suzhou University, the University of Manchester (Britain), the University of Birmingham (Britain), the University of York (Britain), the Australian National University.

The School pays attention to cultivating students with international visions by setting up international programs. It has currently established undergraduate internationalization exchange programs with well-known foreign universities such as Widener University (the US), Florida State University (the US), Queen's University of Belfast (Britain) and the University of Wollongong (Australia). Since 2014, 10 groups of 220 students have been sent to the United States, Britain, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan region for short-term exchanges.

The School actively carries out academic exchange activities. It hosted the Second International Conference on Packaging Technology and Science, the 2017 China Annual Conference on Engineering Thermodynamics and Energy Utilization, etc., conducted scientific research cooperation and personnel training on high-end marine equipment and intelligent manufacturing equipment with Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Plymouth (Britain) and Victoria University (Australia) and signed a comprehensive strategic agreement of green manufacturing with Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies (Ukraine). Many teachers have attended international academic conferences and carried out visits and exchanges, while experts and scholars from universities like Newcastle University (Australia), Victoria University (Australia), Queen's University of Belfast (Britain) have been invited over for academic exchanges.
