The Passing of 2020 and the “Top 100” Mission

The year 2020 will surely be marked in the history of NingboTech University as it witnessed our transformation into an independent public undergraduate level university. It will also linger on people’s mind for long, throughout the duration of which the world was inflicted with the COVID-19 pandemic. Every and each living soul was plunged into an unprecedented chaos in which we had to unlearn what we have learnt and taken for granted our whole life, and rethink the way of lecturing, linking and living afterwards.
Since the first day of the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been NingboTech’s priority to protect the health and wellbeing of both students and staff, while continuing education in the best possible way without interruption. During this hard time, our team have been working around the clock to assist the Ningbo municipal government to develop a mobile phone “health code” system that serves as a tracker for people’s moves in public areas and quickly identifies those who have been in contact once a confirmed case is diagnosed. I am happy that NingboTech has played its proper role in the battles against the COVID-19 pandemic, and fortunately, we have seen the conclusion of 2020 with zero COVID-19 case on campus. In particular, all the joint program students who have studied at the University of Indianapolis for the last academic year, finally returned to China despite the repeated and torturous flight cancellations between China and US.
In face of the tumultuous situation, NingboTech firmly sustains contribution to scientific development and research by merging the strengths of governments, industries and research institutes. We have initiated the establishment of the International Center of Energy & Power Technology (Ningbo) and Ningbo Great Bay Research Center of Construction & Technology. A total of eleven National Natural Science Foundations and two National Social Science Foundations have been granted, in addition to 143 high-level publications and 59 authorized invention patents. It is reassuring to see that the day and night efforts of NingboTechers paid off which would lay a solid foundation for the years to come.
And, now we are standing at the beginning of the new year. The year 2021 will celebrate NingboTech’s 20thanniversary, a perfect time to look back on our past and set our new mission for the future ahead. We will continue our commitment to pursuing the goal of “Top 100” university in China and training “high-quality and innovative talents with all-round development, humanistic spirits and scientific literacy”. We will continue our efforts with giving momentum to education, research and social services in the region and across the nation. From 2021 onwards, NingboTech is so much more than just a new name, and we all start the new year with a fresh sense of mission and do our best to keep ourselves and our loved ones healthy, safe and prosperous.
